gastroesophageal reflux disease, GERD, heartburn, throat, stomach, lower esophageal sphincter, LES, smoking, weight, stomach acid, proton pump inhibitors, antacids, scarring, cancer, endoscopy, upper GIInterestingly, almost half of children examined by upper cervical chiropractors have a misalignment in the bones of their neck. While this number does decrease when infants are involved, it still exists. It is possible that trauma at birth may have caused a misalignment to occur leading to such health problems as:

  • Chronic ear infections
  • Sleep disorders
  • Issues with digestion

How Upper Cervical Chiropractic Helped One Infant with GERD

It may be hard to believe that a neck misalignment can lead to such issues, but here is an example of one baby that was helped with constipation and GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease). The information was published in 2011 in the Journal of Pediatric, Maternal & Family Health.

The child was a 5-month-old baby girl who was experiencing constipation, GERD, and plagiocephaly. From the time she was born, the baby regurgitated up to 10 times per day. It became worse when she sat up for over 5 minutes or began moving around a lot. She was being breastfed and also had a small amount of baby oatmeal to supplement her feeding.

During her exam, it was noted that she had problems moving her joints and her muscles were tight and asymmetrical. Parts of her spine were already experiencing fixation, and her muscles were changing.

She received adjustments from a chiropractor to correct the misalignment, and this helped to repair the function of the nervous system. Her GERD became less noticeable until it finally went away completely and her constipation was also corrected. Even the unevenness of her head became better when her muscle tone returned.

Do all babies need to be examined for neck misalignments? This is not really necessary, but it is recommended if the child is suffering from any kind of health issue. A simple exam and a safe, gentle adjustment can be just the answer one is looking for to help a child lead a happier life.
