Cerebral palsy was the condition involved in case study conducted by Dr. William Amalu. The study involved the story of a 5-year-old boy who was diagnosed with cerebral palsy, chronic ear infections, blindness, and was having up to 30 seizures a day. He was confined to a wheelchair and was unable to communicate and interact with others properly. Upon examination by an upper cervical chiropractor, it was determined that he had a misalignment in the bones of his upper neck. The top bone of the neck, the atlas, was the original object of focus.
His first adjustment led him to have a good night’s sleep for the first time in a long time. After the second adjustment, his seizures were reduced to just 10 per day. He was becoming more alert and began interacting with others. He began clapping his hands, sitting up and looking around, and as he continued care, his seizures reduced to 5 per day.
During the 3rd and 4th weeks, he no longer had grand-mal seizures, although the others remained at 5 per day. He began using words and his vision improved. He began pulling himself to a standing position and remaining that way for over 1 minute. He was finally free from ear infections for the first time in 9 months. His neurologist reported, during the 5th week of care, that his cerebral palsy was getting better. By week 12, he had no outward signs of seizures, and he continued to improve over the next 10 months. His diagnosis of epilepsy was withdrawn, and he was taken off all medication. He never had another ear infection. He could see fine with prescription glasses and was able to walk slowly by holding someone’s hand.
Upper Cervical Care and Cerebral Palsy
When the bones of the upper neck are misaligned, signals being sent to and from the brain and body via the brainstem become distorted. This can lead to many of the issues mentioned above. By seeking the care of an upper cervical chiropractor, the body can once again begin to function properly, as this case study reveals.
