What exactly is whiplash?
Thinking about what the name indicates, we can imagine a whip being cracked. The motion that happens in that scenario is what basically what happens in our neck when we are in an auto accident in which we have been rear ended. Whiplash may cause you problems long after the car accident. It can leave long-lasting effects because it can damage the neck area, such as the ligaments that keep the bones in the proper position, the discs between the bones, and the neck muscles.
Patients can experience the symptoms resulting from whiplash for as long as five to ten years. It can be difficult to recover. Whiplash can occur at speeds as low as five mph. The bones in the neck can be distorted and keep the neck from being in the proper position. Sixty-eight percent of people in accidents can experience this along with degeneration of the spine.
A new study reveals that the majority of healing in whiplash patients occurs within the first three months after the accident. The healing tapers off at this point. This shows the urgent need to get the right kind of treatment, as soon as you can, to allow your body to heal properly. What is that treatment?
