The Innovation of the Upright MRI
By now, most people have either had an MRI, know someone who has had one, or have at least heard of an MRI. But fewer people know that the man who invented this machine, Dr. Raymond Damadian also invented the upright MRI.
Because of this innovative machine and his research with this machine, he is able to show that a misalignment in a person’s upper cervical spine, which is the top two vertebrae in a person’s neck, causes a change in the flow of their cerebral spinal fluid (CSF), which lubricates the brain and spinal cord, to, from, and through the brain.
The Backup of Cerebral Spinal Fluid
Now, think of this misalignment like a boulder rolling into a stream and causing the water to get backed up. The water will not only not be able to continue to flow, but it will cause build up on the side of the boulder where the water does flow.
In the same way, there is not much room in your neck, so the slightest misalignment of these top two bones in the vertebrae hinders the flow of CSF throughout the body. That inability of the body’s CSF to flow from the brain to the body means it may lead to increased intracranial pressure, and that pressure can lead to various problems including migraine headaches.
Of course, if a misalignment of those top two vertebrae in a person’s upper neck causes pressure build up in the brain, the way to reverse it is to relieve that pressure. That means the upper cervical spine will need to be realigned by an upper cervical chiropractor. This will frequently normalize the flow of CSF over time, thus allowing for the body begin to heal itself of migraines and various other conditions.
Detecting Upper Neck Misalignments
We just talked about how the innovation of the Upright MRI, is being used to detect a misalignment of the top two vertebrae in the upper neck. We also explained how that misalignment can lead to a change in intracranial pressure that can cause migraines and headaches.
Of course, that pressure can be relieved through a specific and gentle form of chiropractic called upper cervical chiropractic. This is a technique that focuses on realigning the top two vertebra in the neck, also called the upper cervical spine, so the brain can communicate properly with the body. That restoration of the brain’s ability to communicate with the body has helped various conditions such as migraines are alleviated and eliminated.
No More Migraine Suffering
Such was the case for a couple of migraine sufferers who dealt with migraines, headaches and other health complications due to whiplash. The upper cervical chiropractor who examined them was able to evaluate their CSF flow using an upright MRI with specialized software.
Upon examination of their upper cervical spines, it was discovered that the top vertebrae (Atlas) was out of alignment, and that hindered the CSF ability to flow from the brain through the neck and to the body. Adjustments to each patients’ upper cervical spine corrected that misalignment and allowed for the CSF to begin to flow properly again. The correction to their upper cervical spine almost fully eliminated their migraine pain within an hour.
How the Body Heals
Along with migraines and headaches, the backup of CSF into the brain can lead to various other complications including neck pain, tingling, numbness, and many other conditions. The way to alleviate the pain of migraines or any other condition due to a misalignment in the upper neck vertebrae is to realign those top two vertebrae in the neck. Aligning those two bones will frequently normalize the flow of CSF and thus alleviate any intracranial pressure.
