Numbness, Tingling, Upper CervicalYour Tingling or Numbing

Do you feel a numbing or tingling feeling throughout your body? That’s not good. The body is not meant to feel that sensation. So, if you do, that is not something you want to ignore. There is something wrong with your body, and your body is sending you signals that you need to take care of whatever it is that is causing that feeling.

But what is causing that sensation? Well, there are several underlying conditions that that feeling could be symptomatic of. Let’s explore some of them.

Causes of Tingling

  • Diabetes – Diabetic Neuropathy accounts for 30% of the cases of peripheral neuropathy—the result of damage to the peripheral nerves. This is often the first sign of diabetes. Tingling and other sensations, due to this, often begin in the feet and travel up the legs. This sensation will then manifest itself in the hands and go up the arms.
  • Nerve Entrapment Syndromes – When nerves become compressed, such as in the case of the compression of the Carpal Tunnel a predisposition or vulnerability to that compression may manifest itself as tingling. Along with CTS, this may also manifest itself as ulnar nerve palsy, peroneal nerve palsy, or radial nerve palsy.
  • Systematic Diseases – These are diseases that either attacks a number of organs or tissue or affects the entire body. Diseases that fall under this category include kidney disorders, liver disease, vascular damage, blood diseases, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, connective tissue disorders, chronic inflammation, and many others.
  • Vitamin Deficiencies – Yes, the body needs a certain amount of vitamins for proper nerve function. Those vitamins that are critical to the body for the proper functioning of nerves include Vitamins E, B1, B6, B12, and Niacin. If the body doesn’t get the right vitamins, it could manifest itself as a tingling feeling.

These are only some of the conditions that may result in tingling or numbing in your limbs or throughout your body. Next we’ll talk about some more conditions that may be causing your numbing or tingling feelings.

Though, if you feel a constant pins and needles feeling in any part of your body, it is important that you seek the proper care now.

Upper cervical chiropractors will thoroughly evaluate your head and neck alignment to determine if numbness or tingling is a result of misalignments within the spinal column. If examination findings indicate that misalignments are present, an upper cervical chiropractor can correct those misalignments precisely, gently and effectively. Reducing misalignments in the spine is a crucial first step in improving nerve flow and function thereby reducing many causes of numbness and tingling.
